Allergies

What are Allergies?

An allergic reaction happens when the body's immune system overreacts to substances in the environment that are usually harmless for most people. These substances, known as allergens or "triggers," can be found in various things such as:

  • House dust mites
  • Pets (such as cats and dogs)
  • Pollen
  • Insects (e.g., bee stings, mosquito bites)
  • Moulds
  • Foods (e.g., nuts, shellfish)
  • Some medicines

There are several types of allergies, including:

  • Hay fever (allergic rhinitis)
  • Asthma
  • Food allergies
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)

It’s estimated that about 1 in 4 people are allergic to something, with approximately half of all allergy sufferers being children. Allergies can cause a range of symptoms, from mild irritations like sneezing or itching to more serious reactions like difficulty breathing or anaphylaxis, which requires immediate medical attention. Managing allergies often involves avoiding triggers, using medications, or in some cases, undergoing allergy therapy.

How can Salt Therapy help with Allergies?

Salt therapy offers a natural, non-invasive way to relieve allergy symptoms. By spending time in our Salt Rooms, you're exposed to tiny salt particles that help cleanse and detoxify the respiratory system. These particles travel deep into the upper and lower airways as you breathe, offering powerful healing benefits.

Salt has a natural ability to absorb toxins and possesses anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-histamine properties. These properties help to:

  • Eliminate airborne pollen particles from the airways
  • Reduce IgE levels in the body (IgE is the antibody responsible for allergic reactions)
  • Decrease mucus production and the frequency of sneezing
  • Release toxins and mucus from the lungs, reducing the need for the skin to expel it
  • Strengthen the immune system and reduce the reliance on medications or antihistamines

Additionally, our Salt Rooms are filled with an abundance of Negative Ions, which have been scientifically studied for their healing properties since the early 1900s. The benefits of negative ions include:

  • Killing viruses, bacteria, and allergens: Negative ions have been shown to clear the air of harmful particles like dust, pollen, pet dander, and mould spores, significantly reducing airborne viruses and bacteria.
  • Strengthening the immune system: High levels of negative ions improve the function of cilia in the respiratory tract, helping protect your lungs from irritation and inflammation, leading to fewer respiratory illnesses such as colds, flu, hay fever, and asthma.

Salt therapy provides a natural and effective way to help manage allergies and improve overall respiratory health, while enhancing the immune system and reducing the need for medications.
